Energy Challenges in Jordan
Growing global demand and a shortage of oil supplies will lead to higher oil prices. Jordan needs, more than ever, a secured domestic energy supply to meet its increasing domestic demand. Oil shale is one of the most promising indigenous energy sources in Jordan, with estimated reserves of approximately 100 billion tons. The Jordanian oil shale industry is highly attractive to international investors, as Jordanian oil shale is of high quality due to its richness in organic matter and oil content. More importantly, its suitability for open-pit mining and its remote optimal geographical locations make its exploitation more viable.
