Engineer Munther Bsieso
Board MemberEngineer Munther Bsieso holds a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering and graduated from the University of New Haven in the United States in 1981. His thesis was titled "Development and Improvement of the Performance of Turbojet Engines." He has served as Chief Senior Technical Advisor to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources. He was appointed as a member of the National Oil Shale Special Committee to develop a comprehensive strategy and setting up criteria for oil shale retorting projects in Jordan, including evaluation of the fiscal regime and tax system, in cooperation with Charles River Association (CRA).
Engineer Bseiso has worked with several local oil shale companies in Jordan and possesses over 40 years of experience in various energy fields, particularly in oil shale, oil sands, and renewable energy. He has excellent scientific and practical knowledge of oil shale exploitation, retorting and power generation, he has the ability to evaluate the best technologies for utilizing Jordan's vast oil shale resources, thus facilitating the commencement of commercial production at the lowest cost and with high efficiency. Engineer Bsieso has participated in several feasibility studies and field tests related to Jordanian oil shale, in cooperation with international institutions experienced in this field. These included:
1 A preliminary feasibility study with the Russian company Technopromexport to assess the feasibility of direct combustion in a 300 MW direct combustion power plant.
2 Feasibility study with the German company Klockner/Lurgi for the establishment of an oil shale retorting complex with a production capacity of 50,000 barrels per day and a 300 MW power plant.
3 Feasibility study and testing program for oil shale retorting in cooperation with the Chinese company Sinopec, where 1,100 tons of samples were shipped to China.
4. Feasibility study and testing program conducted by the Russian Federal Research Institute and the Russian Science and Technology Center for the development of oil shale retorting project using solid heat carrier (SHC) method based on the well-known Galoter process. Preliminary results showed that the Galoter technology developed by the institute enables the use of high-sulfur Jordanian oil shale to produce high-calorific-value, low-sulfur liquid fuel without hydrogenation.
5 Feasibility study and testing program, conducted in collaboration with the Canadian company Suncor, for oil shale retorting using the Alberta Taciuk Process (ATP).
Engineer Bseiso has participated in numerous conferences and seminars, particularly those related to oil shale, and has published several technical research papers in this field. He possesses extensive experience in evaluating large-scale projects and preparing terms of reference and tender documents. He has worked closely with the Royal Scientific Society, the Higher Council for Science and Technology, and the National Energy Research Center to conduct field experiments, scientific preparation, and the design and manufacturing of a small-scale oil shale retorting system.
Engineer Bseiso has worked on numerous projects in collaboration with international organizations, including the World Bank, USAID, UNDP, the European Union, and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GTZ). He was appointed by UNDP as Executive Director of Biogas Projects in Jordan, giving him a strong understanding of project development and implementation. The Arab International Energy Association selected Engineer Munther Bseiso as an international energy expert and member of the Association.
